Japan-America Society of San Antonio (JASSA) is a dynamic cultural and educational organization dedicated to strengthening connections between San Antonio, TX and Japan through comprehensive programming and community engagement. Since 1985, JASSA has been instrumental in promoting Japanese culture, language, and traditions throughout the San Antonio region. The organization offers a diverse array of services designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and build meaningful relationships between communities. JASSA hosts the annual Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival), a major community event featuring Japanese performances, authentic cuisine, craft vendors, and activities for families. The organization provides structured Japanese language classes at multiple proficiency levels, open to both members and the general public, with special discounts available for members. Additionally, JASSA organizes a competitive Speech Contest for high school and university students, offering opportunities to advance from local to state and national levels in Japanese free speech, poetry, and haiku categories. The organization actively participates in prominent San Antonio events including the Lunar New Year Asian Festival, San Japan Anime Convention, and the World Affairs Council Event, serving as an information resource and cultural ambassador. Through member-exclusive events such as the Shinnenkai (New Year Party) and Bounenkai (End of Year Party), JASSA cultivates an engaged community while maintaining focus on its core mission. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, JASSA combines grassroots exchange activities with professional community outreach to disseminate the diverse values of San Antonio while nurturing teamwork, discipline, and leadership among all participants.
