Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations

The Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations represents the Government of Japan and operates through five specialized sections that address critical global issues. Based in New York, NY, the Mission engages in comprehensive diplomatic work across multiple sectors including political affairs, economic development, social policy, administration, and coordination. The Political Section handles regional security matters before the Security Council, disarmament and non-proliferation initiatives, peacekeeping operations, and international justice issues. The Economic Section manages development assistance, reconstruction aid, environmental policy, and coordination with major UN agencies including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UNICEF. The Social Section addresses human rights, humanitarian concerns, and human security matters. The Administrative, Budgetary & UN Recruitment Section negotiates UN budget matters and country assessment rates while working to increase Japanese nationals in UN institutions. The Coordination Section manages protocol, communication, security, and accountability while facilitating inter-sectional coordination and media relations.
